Probably Connecticut, ca. 1780-1795.
Cherry, tulip poplar, secondary wood
Condition: One minor "cabinet-makers" mistake, refinished, retains the original oval brass.
One of the more rare and unusual features of the chest are the carved out drawerfaces revealing a lipped edge. the serpentine front with conforming molded edge top and base molding is supported by carved block-form feet. The chest is inscribed on the backboards, "William Page, Rockford, Ill", perhaps an owner of the chest.
