For the Collector: Inscribed initials C. C. on the lid of this oval Hingham, Massachusetts pantry box. In excellent condition, this lightweight wooden box demonstrates the traditional construction techniques of a Hingham box cooper. The sides of the lid and body of the box are finished in opposing directions that taper to triangular points and secured with tiny copper tacks. Although it is not certain who made this particular box since hundreds were made and shipped up and down the eastern seaboard, the construction of this box clearly indicates the hand of a Hingham box cooper.
Original Windsor green paint has over time darkened to black. Inscribed initials on the lid could be the maker or an owner.
Excellent condition with no cracks or breaks. Expected wear to paint.
