Ice Bucket with Western Theme. Silver Plate. Circa 1880's

An unusual ice bucket with a western theme, depicting ram's heads on opposite sides for carrying; additionally decorated on both sides with engravings of a polar bear on ice in an Arctic setting. Removable middle cylinder accommodated the bottle of wine or champagne, while surrounding area of bucket provided for ice or cold water to keep beverage cool.

Very rare, in that wine drinking was not nearly as prevalent in America during the 19th century as it is today.

Ice bucket is marked "Meriden B. Co. quadruple plate III USA". (see images).

Obviously manufactured by the Meriden Silver Plate Company of Connecticut, Circa 1880's.

Ice bucket is in excellent all original condition with the original and strong silver plate; no dents and no gouges.

Typifies a rare and unusual piece of Art of The American West.
