A Classical Bergere

The bergere is a rare form not often encountered in American Classical furniture.  On this beautiful chair, the tall shaped back is finished with a pedimented crest rail venerred in crotch mahogany.  The front legs are ornamented with large reeds and raised on brass casters with gilt-lacquered finishes.  The arms terminate in scrolls and are topped with upholstered arm pads.  The frame is covered in a Scalamandre harateen following a period model.
