A rare Pilgrim Century chest over drawer: the three panels on the front with applied molded edges, and the ends with a large, square raised panel. The front stiles terminate with the original flatened ball feet. The drawer is side-hung. Oak, birch, maple and pine, retaining much of its original thin red wash. North Shore, MA, c.1700-1715. One of perhaps two dozen known, most have turned up in Essex County, and many are now in museum collections. See Jobe and Kane, New England Furniture, The Colonial Era, pp.120-123 for extensive information about these chests. 42" wide, 19" deep, 31" ht.
