Miniature furniture was used as “salesman samples” for the purpose of promoting the purchase of said article by showing exactly what the item would look like to prospective customers “in the field”.
It was also made for decorating large scale dollhouses.
In the case of a miniature chest of drawers, women often utilized them to store their jewelry.
This particular bureau is American mid 19th century from the Empire or Federal period, in excellent original mahogany finish and condition. Small underneath glue block replaced (see image). Small slither above left foot lacking (see image).
