REMARKABLE Folk Art Still Life Featuring an Export Bowl and Engraved Silver Spoon

Northeast America, likely New York State, possibly New York City, ca. 1840. Oil on canvas. Full of energy and freshness and vigor, this beautiful painting has unusually strong, harmonious, deeply saturated colors. Bold design, similar to that seen in theorems of the period, yet much more colorful and sophisticated. Obviously fresh, just-picked crisp fruits overflow a basket that can scarcely contain them (symbolizing abundance and good health). The rare inclusion of an export [porcelain] bowl and silver spoon engraved "EB" (the artist? the client?), is a fascinating element that has been seen on a very small group of paintings, likely from NYC. The airy sinous white textile adds visual depth and reinforces the clean, fresh feel. Housed in a superbly carved ripple frame of the period. Excellent condition, with only very-minor touch-up. Relined. Original stretcher. Sight size 19 3/4 x 17 inches. Overall frame size 25 3/4 x 23 inches.
