Miniature on ivory portrait of David Emery, signed by Thomas Badger



Miniature on ivory identified as Daniel Emery of Maine or Massachusetts, c. 1835.
 
The portrait is signed Badger on the left side of the image and identified with family history on a paper which was folded inside the case.
The paper reads:
"This is a miniature of Daniel Emery
Son of Shem?? and Mary Emery,
Brother to Mary Elizabeth,
George,
Nathaniel,
Ira,
Susan,
Woodbury,
Sophila.  
S? Emery died about 1836,
Mary E. married ??? Seward???
After war den armeds???
George Dennett
Geo Ware Dennett,
son of Geo & Mary E." 
 
Thomas Badger was an artist in Boston, Massachusetts in the 19th century.  He specialized in portraits.  He trained under John Ritto Penniman. He was active in Boston in 1814.  He was the grandson of Boston Colonial painter Joseph Badger.  He worked in Boston, Southern, NH and Maine, especially Brunswick and Bowdoin college. He exhibited at the Boston Atheneum, National Academy of Design, American Academy, etc.
