In mythology, Clytie was a sea nymph, the daughter of Oceanus, who was changed into the plant heliotropium for her unrequited love of Helios, the sun-god. The original Greco Roman marble sculpture is in the Townley collection at the British Museum. It was reputed to have been Charles Townley’s favorite sculpture.
