Two very beautiful Chinese export porcelain figural candleholders modeled as elegant court ladies holding lotus blossoms (the symbol of purity), the blossoms forming the holders for each candle. Decorated in famille rose enamels and wonderfully detailed, their robes with flowers and cloud patterns, their capes of peacock feathers. This sort of object would have fed the European mania for all things Chinese and exotic in the 18th century and would have been part of the most fashionable interiors of the period. Restoration to the lotus blossoms and the hands of the figures, otherwise in good condition.
