A very rare and unusual Chinese export porcelain oval reticulated platter, with some of the finest hand-cut shaped and barbed reticulation we've ever seen, decorated in overglaze rouge-de-fer enamels and gilding. In addition to its superb quality, we speculate that this was once part of a rather plain armorial dinner service, pieces of which were sent out at a later point, to be over-decorated in the style we see here, in order to make the pieces more up-to-date. The original piece dating to circa 1770-80, the over-decoration, circa 1810-1820. Excellent condition.
