EXTREMELY RARE PLATE MADE IN THE CREIL FACTORY FOR THE AMERICAN MARKET CIRCA 1810

Although the English flooded our markets with ceramics, the French sent us almost nothing (see our article on ceramics).  This plate is one of very few examples that are known.  You can see the obvious high quality of the transfers used.  Perhaps this explains why they were not able to compete with the English wares.  We include a photo of the factory label and the impressed "Creil" mark on the reverse.  Besides this plate we know of only 2 other Washington pieces and 1 Franklin transfer.
