This attractive pitcher is decorated with the most patriotic icons of the early republic. On one side is the eagle and shield and on the reverse is Liberty. These two were taken from early American coins, one is illustrated below, by the Staffordshire, England makers in the 1820's. Below the spout is Peace & Plenty. The contrast between the white and the blue background is quite striking. Note also the fine band of applied floral decoration around the top and the engine turned decoration on the base. Truly an attractive addition to any collection of early American ceramics. Not only is the background blue color quite beautiful but it is also most desirable and rare.
