English Plain Creamware Rococo Shell-form Soup Tureen and Cover,
Staffordshire or Yorkshire,
Circa 1785


The beautiful creamware tureen of bombe-form has large scroll shell handles with their molded terminals swirling almost a quarter of the way back onto the body of the tureen. The central section with molded reeding. The cover is decorated with long molded shell-edged rims and surmounted with a large and well-defined finial of a flower bud, the terminal of leaves and a smaller flower bud. The tureen has a rich cream color.
