Amphora Pottery Art Nouveau Era Vase

Amphora Pottery Art Nouveau Era Vase

An artful pair of tulips applied as handles to a vase began life as a watercolor assignment. The goal was to create a stylized representation of a botanical subject that could become part of a decorative object. The company of Reissner, Stellmacher & Kessel of Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia aka The Amphora Pottery Works assigned artisans the task of envisioning fanciful creations and on approval, were sent to the manufactory.

This dual handled piece of earthenware is painted, glazed and retains original gilt.

It hails from an estate in Cape May, New Jersey. Circa 1900 . Condition is excellent. Base marked with a crown , Amphora Austria and “3857/45”

Dimensions are 10 ¾” height x 7 ¼” width.
