New England, ca. 1780-1820. Turned from maple, the slow-lathe widely spaced blade marks readily apparent. Skillfully and thinly worked, yet very solid with a super feel in-hand. Exterior exhibiting "stepped" segments created by the turner to give the bowl added aesthetic, the character further built by shrinkage without cracking. Diameter varies from 17 7/8 inches to 18 1/4; height reaches to 6 inches..
