The underside of this plate identifies this city view as "Baltimore" which by 1830 had become one of America's half dozen major population centers. Still it is a rarity to find any American city views on a piece of English porcelain. The quality of the painting is truly superb indicating that the piece was produced at one of the top English ceramic factories, possibly Worcester. In mint condition, it was previously sold by Hirschl & Adler into the well known Warner Collection in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and can be seen in the book published by that Collection.
