Woodlands Native Americans Painting



A vibrant 19th century painting showing a family of Woodlands Native Americans in an encampment. Birch bark canoes, structures and an open sided lean-to graphically depict living areas and transportation. A baby in a hammock is visible on far right. Colors show the brightness of clothing and moccasins. 

canvas is stampe in red ink:
M J Whipples , artist supply store ,35 Cornhill, Boston . M J Whipples was in business from 1855 to 1869 when it was sold to Francis Seth Frost who renamed the store Frost and Adams.
