Large Watercolor of a Barge Horse, Named Bob,
Signed M.N. Carr,
Circa 1860
(Ref: NY9468-Urrx)
A large watercolor painting of a famous Barge Horse, Bob. An impressive horse that once pulled barges along the River Ancholme towpath in the Brigg area was so well-known and highly regarded that an artist, M N Carr, painted his picture.
We are trying to research the metal plaque to the reverse which reads: Bob the massive Brigs Bargehorse famed for his magnificent mane & tail which was braided when pulling barges up the River Ancholme, Circa 1860. Briggs is in North Lincolnshire.
