American School, signed (l.r.): Anna Davis (?), Ca. 1850-1870. Oil on canvas. 34 ½” x 25 ½” with frame. Over-all in fine condition, wax lined, in a period gilt frame. This charming winter scene depicts a woman carrying a bundle of kindling wood through the town square. The birch trees and the church with a tall spire gives us the feeling of a New England town.
