FOX WEATHERVANE

THIS WEATHERVANE WAS MADE IN OCT.1973 , AND PROBABLY THE 48TH FOX JOHN THEW EVER MADE. HIS BUSINESS WAS LOCATED IN NORFOLK, CONNECTICUT,  THE REFERENCE BOOK. "WEATHERVANES", BY CHARLES KLAMKIN, PUBLISHED IN 1973, PAGES 32-34:    KLAMKIN WRITES ABOUT THE IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTION TO WEATHERVANE HISTORY, MADE BY THEW.

THE FOX HAS A NATURAL, AS WEATHERED, PATINA.AND IT IS CONSTRUCTED OUT OF COPPER.. THE WONDERFUL "FLUID" FORM OF THE RUNNING FOX, SHOWS THE WHIMSICAL, FOLK QUALITY, AND SKILL OF THE MAKER.

THIS FOX HAS BEEN PART OF MY PERSONAL COLLECTION , AND OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, I HAVE SEEN A FEW , OF THESE EASLY RECOGNIZABLE FORM, SELL AT AUCTION. THEY ARE HOWEVER, NOT STAMPED BY THE  MAKER.

THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF AMERICAN FOLK ART IN AMERICA, WITH ALL DOCUMENTATION, AND KLAMKIN BOOK IS INCLUDED.
