This watercolor of an unidentified woman holding a flower is likely the work of Jacob Maentel (1778-1863). Jacob Maentel emigrated from Germany to America in 1805 and earned his living as a portrait painter starting around 1807 in Lebanon, York, Berks, and Dauphin Counties in Pennsylvania. The portrait is in a period, but not original frame and there is a two inch tear in the background above and to the right of her head. W: 12.75”, H: 13.75”.
