This impressive mirror is three feet wide and almost six feet tall and has a commanding presence. It would be spectacular in a room over a pier table between two windows, which is probably how it was originally used. The deeply carved three dimensional gesso and gilt embellishments are perfectly set off by the ebonized black painted background of the frame. This mirror was made in Boston circa 1820 and is attributed to the important classical mirror makers Bittle & Cooper. Amazingly it retains its original mirror glass, gilt and ebonized surface, backboard and cast iron hangers. It would enhance the finest collection of neo-classical furnishings.
