Everyone loves miniature scale decorative arts, probably because they bring us back to fond memories of childhood. This mirror is just such an item as it was undoubtedly made for a child who was lucky enough to have a father who was a very skilled cabinet maker. I have personally never seen a miniature Federal Period mirror of finer quality!!! The acorn shaped drops in the cornice are usually associated with NYC or Albany, NY manufacture in the 1810-20's. There is a date "1830" written on one of the backboards.
Included among the photos is one of a similar full size mirror in our inventory for comparison.
The overall condition is original and excellent although there is some restoration. Most of the gilt is original but there is some over gilding. There are 5 original acorn drops, six are missing but not obvious. The carved double spiral columns are beautifully done by a very skilled woodworker. The glass appears to be early and the backboards replacements. In no way does any of this detract from enjoying this extremely rare and desirable mirror.
