This charming sculpture of George Washinton is only 7 1/2" tall but it most assuredly manages to capture the essence of the man. Notice the Roman classical garment he is wearing. We cannot recall ever seeing another similar piece in marble in over 40 years in the trade. We estimate its time of creation to be 1800-1850. And that it was made in one of the great cities of Anerica it being too sophisticated to have been produced in a rural area.
There is a very small depression on its bottom indicating perhaps that someone had made a stand for it to sit on. An excellent idea if you have the ability. Unfortunately I don't.
