Chinese Export Porcelain Mandarin Vases & Covers,

Circa 1780

The Chinese Export Ovid-form vases and covers are enameled with a large scene to the front of a standing male figure engaging with a standing woman and two children who stand by the entrance to a tall building with a river, trees, and mountains in the background.  

On the reverse, a standing man and a seated woman and a child watch a small child play with a dog also in a wooded landscape.  Both sides in the Mandarin pattern with an underglaze blue design leaf surround. The ground of the vases is covered in an iron-red cell-diaper design overlaid with famille rose flowers. Underglaze blue is used around the neck with a gilt band surrounding the collared neck. The ground of the covers similarly decorated and the finial is in the form of a seated Kylin.

Dimensions: 12 1/2 inches high x 4 1/2 inches diameter

Condition: Invisible repair to covers and slight loss to gilt around the neck.
