Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, ca. 1770-1790. Red painted and decorated in the 19^th c. Excellent condition, wonderful painted surface, some wear.
The slightly smaller proportions of the chair may suggest it was a Lady’s chair. The carved shaped serpentine crest is highlighted with incising and scrolled ears above spindles, flanked by ring-turned bulbous posts. The beautifully formed shaped saddle seat is supported by vase and ring turned legs jointed by stretchers, ending turned tapered feet remaining in full height.
