CHIPPENDALE SCROLL TOP SECRETARY AND BOOKCASE

Connecticut River Valley, ca. 1780
Cherry, secondary eastern white pine
Condition: Excellent condition. Appears to retain original brass, old repair to lid, replaced finials.
This Chippendale secretary is a fine example, among a group of cabinet makers working in the Connecticut River Valley.
The bookcase has a scrolled arch top and three finials above well-defined tombstone raised panel doors opening to a fitted interior with shelves and conforming concave demi-lunes.
The lower case is fitted with a molding on the desk top above a slant-lid desk having an interior with a central prospect door flanked by column form document drawers and pigeon holes above drawers. The case has four graduated drawers supported on slight ogee bracket feet with a carved, shaped central drop pendant.
