Antique F. Heinig Marsh Cast Iron Horseshoe 1906

This Marsh or Mud horseshoe made of cast iron was a device to strap to a horse's hoof when walking in bogs and other soft earth areas, it allowed the animal to keep from sinking or becoming stuck in the mud by displacing their weight over larger area (similar function to a snowshoe). A wonderful sculptured piece of iron. Stand included. Signed, numbered and dated with embossed lettering, "F. Heinig, Beaver Dam, Wis., #2, Pat. Nov. 20, 06". Extremely Rare and Unique Item!! Excellent condition- original surface.
