This massive architectural schrank is attributed to cabinetmaker Johannes Bachman (1746-1829) of Pequea Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, based on a near identical example that is signed by Bachman (see Clarke Hess, Mennonite Arts, front cover and p. 54). The Bachmans were a multigenerational family of cabinetmakers. It may be the schrank listed in Bachman's account book on January 15, 1796, that was made for Christian Herr of West Lampeter Township. This schrank descended in the Herr-Rohrer-Rush (Resch) family and was acquired on the Rush family farm in New Danville, PA. Excellent overall condition with original brass hardware on the drawers; the door escutcheons, left side lock, lower interior shelves, and several back boards are replaced.
