A Philadelphia card table by Adam Hains

This spectacular inlaid card table relates closely to a labeled example made by Adam Hains, one of the most talented yet little known cabinetmakers in Philadelphia during the late 1700s. It is distinguished by the use of superb mahogany along with Hains’ distinctive inlaid bellflowers on the legs and the floral bouquet with bowknot at the center of the apron. Traces of the original red mastic infill remain. See Minardi, “Adam Hains and the Philadelphia-Reading Connection,” American Furniture 2014, pp. 143-201.
