An 18th century American pine settle

Retaining traces of an old blue paint, this paneled-back settle is part of a distinctive group with armrests terminating in a lollipop shape. One came out of a Quaker meetinghouse near Media, Chester (now Delaware) County, Pennsylvania. For related examples, see Benno Forman, American Seating Furniture, p. 193 (at Winterthur Museum); Wallace Nutting, Furniture Treasury, no. 1628 (now at RISD); and Antiques, March 1977, p. 447. Ex-collection Titus Geesey, Donald Shelley.
