American, ca. 1910.
Carved wood, copper tubing, painted cord, metal, and tin.
Excellent ‘as found’ condition, losses wind-fan blades on high wheel, original painted surface, now oxidized.
A rare and unusual carved patriotic figure of an Uncle Sam with clothing made of wrapped cord painted red, white, and blue was most likely a whirligig and a wonderful example of American vernacular art from the early 20th c.
