English Creamware Large Jug Decorated with Rustic Scenes of Farm Buildings and Farm Animals,
Staffordshire or Yorkshire,
Circa 1785.
This charming creamware pottery jug is hand painted on each side with different rural farm scenes. To one side is a large house with a mare & foal in the pasture in front of the house. On the reverse side is a thatched house with smoke issuing from the chimney, with a lady sitting outside the door beside a ladder which reaches to the roof and she appears to be holding a broom. In the yard in front of her are chickens and a small dog. Below the spout is an oval orange panel with an entwining leaf band and within are the initials I. I.
