A Covered Box

Generally referred to as Berlin iron, this covered box carries a stately appearance despite its relatively small size. The castings are beautifully articulated. Classical motifs abound with paired griffons, scrolls, torches, and bold animal feet.

Related examples of this box are in the Kunstgewerbemuseums in Cologne and Berlin,

the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, and Staattliche Schlösser und Gärten, Berlin.
