Two American ship transfers, along with one depicting cooper (barrel maker)John Dockity, all enhanced with gold leaf decoration.  This is a rarely seen technique since it added greatly to the cost of the jug.  Alas, since the gold leaf is over the glaze and could not be fired, it is very vulnerable to wearing off.  That is why when we see it now it usually is in very worn condition.  Our example shows a still bright original layer partially covered by a second layer of restoration.  It may be practical to remove the restoration creating an all original piece.  We are happy with the jug as is and have no trouble leaving it along.  A label on the bottom indicates it was once in the famous Fleischer Collection.  Obviously Mr. Fleischer agreed with our view.  Here is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece with gilt decoration.
