The earliest map of Washington DC was done by Ellicott in 1792. It is rarely available for purchase and usually in poor condition when found. Slightly later in 1795 was the first printing of this map in England by J. Russell which is our map. It is in exceptionally good condition without the usual defects. It has been archivally conserved and beautifully framed. Note that all issues of the map are from an atlas and therefore will have fold marks. Those on this map are difficult to see. Interestingly 3 buildings which were built around 1820 were added by light pencil. This proves that although the map was printed in England it was actually used in this country. Lots of detail, ease to read, impresssive on the wall, a terrific map.
